The Battle of Vimy Ridge
The map here displays the fateful and iconic battle of Vimy Ridge, which to this day in Canadian history is a source of nationalistic pride in what our ancestors managed to achieve through sheer grit and determination to seize. It has often been described as one of Canadas most brilliant military victories in history, and even in the entire first world war given how successful it was with relatively fewer than expected casualties. The significance of the battle of Vimy Ridge cannot be understated of how important it was as a moral booster. At this time moral was wanning as years of pointless charges into enemy trenches and thousands of casualties yielded few significant results was taking its toll at home in Canada and especially on the frontlines. Despite the brutality of the fighting, the victory was well earned as Canada soon gained huge international recognition among the fighting powers, respect from the British and French, and fear from the German infantry who now had a threat to their elaborate trench fortifications which had been keeping their frontlines stable.
