Deaths and the effects it had.

Death is a cruel and common thing that is unavoidable, but during the construction of the Canadian Pacific railway, it seems all the Chinese immigrants could do was welcome it. During the construction hundreds or maybe thousands died building the railway. Some died in accidents, others from illness, malnutrition, and exhaustion. But when they died, their families were left unnotified or compensated. Those who died were simply just left behind and forgotten. It is estimated that for every mile of track laid, 3 Chinese workers died. If they were indeed able to survive, they would have lived out life paying for their debt of the head tax they were forced to pay and without the recognition of what they sacrificed for Canada. Today we recognize everything they did, and we have several monuments all over Canada paying homage to those who were lost during construction but also those who lived and didn't get recognition.
