This photo was taken at the Hôpital Cooke in Trois-Rivières in 1967, the picture shows nurses and a physician examine a young woman, showcasing the new era of professional and accessible healthcare in the province of Quebec. These changes were driven by the province's Quiet Revolution under Premier Jean Lessage. The Nationalization of Quebec's hospitals was a key reform during the Quiet Revolution during the early 1960s as the administration of the healthcare system was transferred from the Church to the provincial government which also seeked to ensure there was equal access to healthcare for everyone in Quebec, regardless of their financial status. Alongside nationalization in 1961 the province of Quebec joined the federal government's hospital insurance program which gave free hospital services to the population of Quebec which was a big change from the days of access being limited by financial means. These reforms didnt just reduce social inequality but also showcased Quebec's larger commitment to modernization of its institutions in order to improve the quality of life for its people.
