Jean Lesage was known as the "Father of the Quite Revolution", he would play a key role in Quebec's modernization. As Premier he would remove the deep rooted influence of the Church in Quebec's society such as taking away their control of the education system and handing it over to the newly established and secular, Ministry of Education. He is also remembered for nationalizing 11 private electrical companies in order to create Hydro-Québec, in a big step towards economic independence. Alongside nationalizing electrical companies his government also nationalized hospitals and ensured free healthcare for the Québécois which was funded by Ottawa but managed by Quebec. These reforms shaped Quebec's society into what we know it today.
